The Journey - In
Santa Fe - Spirit

Christmas Eve, 2001. The bear decides it's time to go on a
spiritual quest. He books a flight on Southwest Airlines to New Mexico, Land of Enchantment and home of many American Indian tribes. "They are spiritual. They will help me on my quest." says Abdul.
The airport is strangely quiet, and Abdul is first in line. Well, he is when he pushes everyone else aside and sits on the counter until he is served. "Everyone make way. Me first. I'm on a spiritual quest." He obviously needs enlightenment.

Every quest has its obstacles and this is no exception. Abdul must change planes in El Paso. The El Paso airport is crowded and he is too late to be first in line. The devious bear |
thinks of a way to get on the plane first by sneaking onto the ramp before the plane arrives.
"Heh," snorts the not-yet-enlightened bear. Next

| He arrives in New
Mexico and immediately seeks out an Indian girl and asks the first burning question: "How do you spell Albe...uh...Alba...uh...Albuquerque?"
She is silent, but he sees a sign and his question is answered. "Wow. Those Indians are really good at this spiritual stuff!" says the impressed bear.
The spiritual journey continues as the bear's chauffeur |
|
 |
rents a car and drives him through the great American southwest. Abdul now learns another important lesson: New Mexico is not only the "Land of Enchantment", it is also the "Land of Uninsured Motorists". "Spiritual quests are fraught with danger" notes Abdul. "Nice scenery,
though." Next

His chauffeur points out Abdul's destination ahead - Santa Fe! "Where? What are you talking about? I don't see anything! You're a moron. I need a new chauffeur!" says the bitchy bear, before it is explained to him that every building in Santa Fe is adobe because it is meant to blend in with the landscape. "Whatever" remaks Abdul.

Finally, Abdul sees the adobe buildings. "It's like camoflage or something. Must be some kind of spiritual Indian device that works as a tourist magnet. Cool."

He arrives at his destination, the Inn of the Anasazi in Santa Fe. "This looks VERY spiritual!" smiles the bear, who thinks four-star hotels are about as spiritual as you can get.

The
lobby is warm and inviting.
"I'm feeling spiritual already!" declares Abdul.

His room has the
required spiritual trappings: a kiva and a very tall, four-poster bed.
"Om!" chants the bear. Next |

He and his
pal, the Lizard, deeply contemplate the room for about a minute.

Abdul looks out his window and sees....adobe! "That stuff is everywhere. Guess it's time to go explore Santa Fe. There's got to be more than mud in this town."
