Abdul's first
feature-length, live-action movie is accepted, but then banned by
the Austin Film Festival.
Abdul had a role in a movie called Jetblast
which was set to premiere at the Austin Film Festival, but
then...well, read what The Austin-American Statesman reported on
October 11, 2001:
"Welcome to Tuesday, Sept. 11, movie producer Scott Perry.
This is your dream come true, only very different. After 2 1/2
years, you and pals have finally completed "Jet Blast," a
goofy comedy
that lays on the special effects like nobody's business. It's got
Austin's best-known funny guy Kerry Awn in the cast. You're
scheduled for the Austin Film Festival. Then a tour of college
towns. Can't lose!...The
Austin Film Festival pulls "Jet Blast" from its
schedule..."It's unreal how different it is watching it
now," says Courtney Davis, a festival programmer who counted
"Jet Blast" her top choice for an Austin filmmakers
showcase. "It's a comedy; it's supposed to be funny. If our
festival were a month ago, it would be different. If it were a year
from now, it would be different."
Abdul's response is
completely unprintable, but translates into something like "Weenies!"
An underground screening
is arranged at a place appropriately called "The
Hideout". Next |
